So I'm Sitting Here . . .

. . . in MD Anderson. Judy's had a cardiac scan, and now she's having a PET scan. Very high-tech stuff, and I'm not so sure I like the idea of being injected with radioactive material, even if it's just a small amount.

There's a computer table here in the waiting room with two computers. Competition for them is hot, but I've got one at the moment, so I thought I'd take advantage of it to help myself cope with the boredom. We've been here since 10:30. Four hours exactly. And more hours to go.

Luckily I have a peanut butter sandwich in my all-purpose bag, so I won't starve to death. Judy hasn't been allowed to eat anything since dinner last night. She's probably really hungry about now, unless the testing has distracted her.

You know what the great thing about blogging this is? I can transfer my boredom to you. I think I'll stop now.

OK, now I'm bored. Hope you aren't

Bill,

Raymond Chandler would have a man with a gun step through the doorway right about now.

Enjoy your boredom; what you DON'T want in a hospital is melodrama.

It's the writing that's getting you through it. It's good for something after all. We're rooting for you both.

I told you, Bill: reading material.

Either that or an iPod.

Okay, I'm home now. Even reading material gets old after a while. Blogging takes the edge off. We're doing okay, and thanks for all the good thoughts.

Long hospital waits and waiting for test results, the very worse things and since me and my husband are seniors, we have been there and done that. It never gets easier and my heart goes out to you and your wife. I have enjoyed every book you have written and I wish I could do something good for you. Just know you have thousands of fans out here thinking about you at this very moment. Take care Bill, just be brave.

Thanks, Moni. Judy's the brave one. I'm just tagging along. We're expecting only the best to come of this.

I want to say something encouraging and/or witty. It just doesn't come. So I'll just say, keep on hanging in, Bill. It's great that you can be there with Judy in this time.

Hey, Benjie, we're hanging in, and we're feeling good about all this.

THOUSANDS of fans? Really? Heck, one of the things I like about this site is Bill's constant mention of other books and authors. I'm in D.C. for a convention and brought along a V. Hendricks novel based on Bill's recommendation.

Glad you're both hanging in there and doing well. May continued good fortune and patience stay with you.

Well, tens of fans, maybe.

But those tens of fans are obviously the creme de la creme of readers.

Indubitably.
