Fifteen Geek Movies to see before You Die

TechBlog: Fifteen geek movies to see before you die: "Fifteen geek movies to see before you die

I am as much a film geek as a tech geek. In a previous life, I reviewed music and movies, and had lots more fun with the latter. If someone offered me a film-review job that paid my mortgage, I'd take it in a second, but I have a feeling that will remain a part of my past rather than become my future.

Sadly, most of the film reviews I wrote back then are not online . . . I'd love to share the absolutely horrible review I wrote of The Story of O for the Daily Texan, circa 1975. But alas . . .

Geeks and movies go together quite nicely. I've been thinking about films that reflect tech and geek culture, and have pulled together a list of 15 movies that should probably be on any geek's must-see list.

These are in no particular order, except that the first one is my No. 1 Must-Watch-for-Geek-Cred film."

I've seen 14 of these.

I've seen thirteen for sure. I cannot recall if I have seen Army of Darkness all the way through.

Saw every one of them but Army of Darkness. Of course, we see about every movie in every category.

You really should see Army of Darkness. It's Bruce Campbell playing the Three Stooges.

I've seen ten of them. Actually, I have four of them on DVD. Does that make me a geek?

I think it just means you and geeks like the same movies.

So, which one have you missed, Bill? I've seen them all, but my viewing of ARMY OF DARKNESS was interrupted, as well.

I hate to admit it, but I've never seen Office Space.

I'm 15 for 15. Which surprises absolutely no one, if I'm not mistaken.

I can't die yet. I've got six to go. I'm not sure about the Star Trek: Voyage Home and I may have seen Brazil (I've seen enough excerpts of it not to be sure of having not seen it).

Word up: "wxtqujqu" sounds like an Indian god.

Vince, I'm not surprised at all.

Juri, I'm sure you'll get there soon enough.

I'm proud to say I am one of the few people who saw "Office Space" in the theatre.

The Daily Texan in 1975? Was Sam Hurt there then? I don't know him, but I do know Eyebeam.

I looked at the geek-films list. I've seen a few of those movies. One of the movies that I have not seen contains "Brad Pitt's best performance ever." Hmm, would that make two movies in which he shows a trace of facial expression?

I was last at UT in 1971. Those were the days.
