Happy Birthday, William Faulkner!

I'm a fan of William Faulkner. I've probably read The Sound and the Fury six or eight times. In fact, I've read an awful lot of Faulkner's work, and I've enjoyed about 90% of it. Faulkner, besides being a lot of other things, was a crime writer (Sanctuary) and a mystery writer. Check out the stories in Knight's Gambit, which is listed in Queen's Quorum. One of the stories, "An Error in Chemistry" originally appeared in EQMM, I believe.

I'm not the first to say this but Daniel Woodrell is as close to WF as it gets. Went to his house in Oxford on a pilgrimage a few years ago and found it very evocative. Hope to see you in Madison.

I knew a guy in grad school named Bill Faulkner. He went to vist William in Oxford and actually got to meet him. I've never even been to the house.

They just redid it. Megan and her husband were there last year to see it. Modest and yet beautiful and inspiring all at once.
