James Reasoner asks today if I know about Gator Fest. Although I've never attended, I've certainly thought about it. It's held just up the road from here, in Anahuac. I really should try to get to Gator Fest next year, I guess.
I also live nearby and like to go to Gator Fest, but I have a problem with the idea of celebrating alligators by killing them and hanging them up for display (as I've heard they do).
I'm not a member of PETA. I DO live in Texas after all. It just seems a bit bizarre to support a festival about killing.
On the other hand, if gators outnumber humans 3 to 1 in Anahuac (as the fest site reports), then I suppose controlling their population is required for humans to be safe.
I've never attended, so I don't know if they actually kill gators. Seems like a crummy way to celebrate, if you ask me.
On the other hand, I lived in West Texas for years, and there was an annual rattlesnake round-up. I didn't mind at all that they killed a ton of rattlesnakes.

Anahuac! That's one of the Austin Lounge Lizards' BEST songs! You gotta go Bill! Some places you just gotta visit.
Three words, Bill: "Murder at GatorFest"
By golly, I think you're onto something there.
