"He loves his damned ol' rodeo as much as he loves me..."No, I'm not crying! It's dusty in here!
That's a great song. You can just feel the young girl's wistful longing and see the pickup rolling down the dusty road and pulling into the isolated ranch where she and her dad live. And you can feel her frustration that the young cowboy really does love his rodeo as much as he loves her.
Judy loved this song, Deb, so it gets dusty in here every time I hear it.
Love this song.
I first heard it in the Tanya Tucker version. She was way closer to the right age. Crystal Gayle also covered it.
Suzy Boggus does a nice version. I never get tired of this song no matter who sings it!
Fun fact: the song was written by Ian Tyson of Ian & Sylvia fame. They did the original version as a duet.
I have that version on a double LP of their hits.
If you go to youtube there are versions Ian did with Crystal Gayle and with Suzy Bogguss.
All kinds of dusty. One of the finest songs ever. God bless the West.
