And I thought they were going to rank every *episode*. In which case, my candidate was "The City on the Edge of Forever," written by Harlan Ellison. (Although there's a lot of back-and-forth about how much of the final script was actually his.)
I wouldn't argue with DS9 being the best *series* though.
