Always liked Jesus Son(any book titled after a Lou Reed lyric gets my attention) and Things We Carried. The title story is one of my all time favorites.
Been years since I read Winesburg Ohio and I don't remember it well. I would have included The Martian Chronicles by Bradbury.

I like those, too, Steve, and I also have only vague memories of Winesburg. Would agree on adding The Martian Chronicles, a real favorite of mine.

I've read all but the Munro. The Alexie is well worth reading too.

City by Clifford Simak should be added to this list

Now that I've thought about it-Pavane by Keith Roberts or Hothouse by Brian Aldiss.

Haven't read Hothouse, but I loved Pavane. And City is one of my favorite books.

The three I've read are really good...

For what it's worth, The Martian Chronicles is also a linked set of short stories...and I see I'm not the first to make that point...
