Another book was THE INSECT WARRIORS by Rex Dean Levie. During college he was challenged to write a novel by his classmates, and did so. I don't think he ever wrote another novel, but The Insect Warriors is still on my shelf, and was a fun read.
Doesn't I, LIBERTINE fall into this category?
I can't remember the exact circumstances, but it would see to fit, according to what I do remember.
