I haven't read this in far too many years--I don't think I even have my copy any more (which was the Ace edition pictured)--but I enjoyed it very much. I can't remember when I found out that Andre Norton was in fact a woman, but as I recall it didn't come as too much of a surprise, and certainly didn't make any difference in how I felt about her writing.

Why do I find this art of the back cover blurb highly ironic?
"This is an intensely masculine Egyptian historical novel..."
Norton and Zenna Henderson were two very different authors whose books I devoured in the early 1960s.
