I saw it the first night it opened. My roommate and I went in expecting a potential Oscar winner. We came out gobsmacked at the campy, over-the-top disaster we'd just seen. It only took the studio a few days to catch on. By the end of the week, they were running "No Wire Hangers Ever" ads.
This must be a bad movie. I have seen it, but if it is bad, it MUST BE one of the most-unliked films people have been talking about over the years.
I somehow had contact with Bob Camp, a cartoonist, artist [designs for EPIC from the Leafmen book] and he was one of the main storyboard guys and writers for Ren & Stimpy, a series that is maddening, innovative, bizzare and creative and he said he was a big fan of movies like "THE LOVED ONE" - but he wrote "Right, I'm not a fan of MOMMIE, either" when he replied on a movie list I had compiled and posted.
