I know the menfolk here won't be interested, but in her autobiography Marianne Faithfull said Gene Pitney was the best ever. I think you can guess what she was talking about.

I was a big fan of Gene Pitney back in the Sixties. Loved his version of THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE.
I listen to his Greatest Hits frequently and this is definitely one of them. He had a great voice.
And he started as a songwriter, writing "He's a Rebel" as well as "Hello Mary Lou" and Bobby Vee's "Rubber Ball."
This was all over Top 40 radio in September 1964 -- first month of freshman year at Montgomery High.

Always liked his voice. My favorite song of his was 24 Hours to Tulsa.
I remember that he sang all the parts on this, using primitive multiple tracking unusual for the time. At least that is what the L.A.. deejays said...
