John Cassavetes? Spike Lee? Terrence Malick? None of them would make my list once, let alone twice.
And some of the choices are, shall we say, eccentric.
Mulholland Drive? Imitation of Life? Marnie? Eyes Wide Shut? Johnny Guitar? The Tree of Life? Heaven's Gate, for crying out loud? These are among the 100 Greatest American Filmes EVER? Not in my world.
Also, why do so many people rank the crappy FORREST GUMP on these "best" lists?
I would add, incidentally, that huge percentage of these were directed by directors who were born outside the US--at least 27 (that I'm sure of). And Billy Wilder is the champ--at least 5 that he directed.
Mostly agree with Jeff Except I love Mulholland Drive. Not fond of Tree of Life but am fond of Malick's New World and Badlands.I am a big fan of Kubrick but dislike Eyes Wide Shut. Also dislike Johnny Guitar with Joan Crawfords over the top performance making it almost unwatchable. The choice of Marnie is odd-one of Hitchcocks worst films. I have seen pretty much every movie on this list which surprised me. But I've been around a long time.

You mean you're sure we WON'T agree, right?

Keep off my lawn!
I think my biggest kick from this list was seeing JOHNNY GUITAR on it.
I had more enjoyment going to my Dentist than I had watching "The Tree of Life."
JOHNNY GUITAR deserves a place on this list: the first post-Freudian western. You could spend the whole movie just examining the subtext.
/IMHO, list has too many post-1970 movies, not enough pre-1950.
I'll be darned if I'm gonna look a list of 100 of anything.
THE BIRTH OF NATION... Well, it is indeed techically brilliant for its day, but, but, but... It's probably the most offensive movie I have ever seen.
Any list of best anything that includes EYES WIDE SHUT is wrong.
I've seen 54 of these, which surprised me--I though I'd be around 40 or so.
