It was a huge hit but as it shot to #1 the radio stations got more and more protests about it. Finally they caved, and even though it was #1 they pulled it from the playlist. Jeff

I didn't know radio stations had pulled it. It sure got a lot of airplay for a while.
I don't know about elsewhere, but they did pull it in New York.
I checked the Wikipedia article on the song. Interesting stuff.
I count nearly 20 (!) cover versions. (Someone is crazy, and it's not me.)
