My mom walked me to school the first day of first grade. She came and got me at the end of the school day. The next morning, she sent me on my way, telling me to follow some of the other kids if I got lost. Again, how is it possible any of us are still here?
The elementary school I attended was only a couple of blocks from my house, and I had to cross only one street. And in my hometown there was no such thing as a busy street. I was pretty safe.

These days, Mommy drives them to school, even if it's only a few blocks. Still, good advice.
