I remember very well when I and a bunch of friends took the 20-minute bus ride into the city to watch AMERICAN GRAFFITI. It was the very first time I was allowed to go into the city in the evening without my parents. I was 11 at the time and the movie is still as fresh as it was the day it came out. Anyway, this was the song most of us kids would remember afterwards - AN' I WONNER WONNER WHO BUH-DUH-DUH! UUH! It would take several years before I realized there was someone playing guitar on the recording. Totally fab. A firm 10 out of 10.
I still remember LIFE magazine dissing this song when it came out. There was some article about how crummy the music was, and LIFE went for the obvious by saying that the name of the group was appropriate. Yet here we are nearly 60 years later, and that song still sounds great to me.
