I must admit I have not kept up with this genre (if that's what you'd call it), the way I would have 30 years ago, but I did know that Eric Roberts has made a sh!tload of movies in recent years.
Back in the early 1990s, my husband wrote some screenplays for a direct-to-video outfit. They would buy grade Z schlock movies from the early 1970s and use that footage as a framing/flashback device to pad out the movie they were producing. Some of the "stars" of these d-t-v movies included Karen Black, Dennis Cole, and Hank Worden (a John Ford fixture). It was really sad in a "how the mighty hath fallen " way. On the other hand, one of those movies featured "Big Dot" who went on to become Dot-Marie Jones ("Beast" on "Glee"), so for some it's a start. But for others it's a long, long fall.
