NYTimes.com: Don Mankiewicz, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter and a member of the family dynasty that produced film classics like “Citizen Kane,” “All About Eve” and his own “I Want to Live!,” a weepy death-house drama starring Susan Hayward as a woman wrongfully accused of murder, died on Saturday at his home in Monrovia, Calif. He was 93.

I hadn't realized he'd written the pilots for two of Jackie's favorite shows: IRONSIDE and MARCUS WELBY, MD.

Lee Goldberg says on Facebook: "The fact checking at the LA Times is just awful. Today, in the obit for the very talented and affable Don Mankiewicz, they credited him as the creator of IRONSIDE and MARCUS WELBY... which he wasn't. IRONSIDE was created by Collier Young. MARCUS WELBY was created by David Victor. Those are easy facts to check...if you're a newspaper or reporter who actually gives a damn . . . "
But how many do?
Actually, Lee Goldberg is wrong. The article I read said that Mankiewicz wrote the scripts for those shows, which he did.
Jeff
Lee was quoting the original LA Times article, which might have been corrected by now.
