BBC News: Singer Joe Cocker, best known for his cover of the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends," has died aged 70.
The singer song-writer from Sheffield had a career lasting more than 40 years with hits including "You Are So Beautiful" and "Up Where We Belong."

RIP. He did a fantastic, if somewhat unorthodox, version of Julie London's classic "Cry Me A River."
Patti Abbott had that on her blog the other day, I think. (Razor-sharp mind still missing here.)
Joe's version benefitted considerably from Leon Russell's arrangement and keyboards.
We saw him at Jazzfest in New Orleans I. 2009 and again at Jones Beach in the summer of 2012. Great shows. By coincidence I was listening to his Greatest Hits. CD last week and realized I didn't have his Mad Dogs & Englishmen CD so ordered it.
It arrived today.

Bummer. He also did an outstanding job on Bird on a Wire, even though the movie stunk.
One critic described Joe Cocker's voice as "the result of gargling with razor blades." Cocker was an acquired taste, but I enjoyed his albums issued in the 1980s.
