Christmas Swag
When I was a kid, I had a pistol set. I believe it was a Roy Rogers deal, and I thought it was long gone. We played hard with the few toys we had, and they didn't tend to last. However, this year my brother found (who knows where) the holsters from the pistol set. The tie-down thongs are missing, and the medallions that were in the center of each holster are gone. The belt and pistols are gone, too, but the holsters remain. Cracked and dry, yes, but more or less intact (or, as the eBay dealers put it, "in tack"). Now that I have them, I'm not sure what to do with them, but it's nice to know that some things from the old days yet remain.

I'd suggest a shadow box if you want to display them but keep them protected.
There's no telling where they've been for the last 60 years or so. I'll try to take better care of them than that.
My wife bought me a brand new set, double holster, Outlaw gun set. Black with silver buckles. Now hanging on my wall with the Model 1938 Red Ryder BB Gun. I'm in 7th Heaven. http://pulplair.blogspot.com for the picture.
I rather think toy guns may be considered a tasteless present this year. Too bad.
I think the empty holsters can be considered tastefully symbolic.
I had Fanner 50s until I received my favorite — A Colt 44 Smoker. It was very realistic. It was a different time.
But it was fun.
As toy guns seemed out of the question, I got my 6-year-old nephew something you'll apprecitate: An alligator head. He loved it!
What could be better?
