Dictating (to a machine or typist) is NOT a literary device. However, I understand that late in life Henry James dictated to a recording cylinder which a typist would then transcribe. Wouldn't it be great if we could find one of those cylinders and listen to the man himself?
/I'm like a fan girl when it comes to Henry James.

You and George Kelley should start a club.
I actually read James for enjoyment myself but I have to say the man never used one word where six would do the job just as well.
