Rolling Stone: King hasn't done many recent in-depth print interviews since a van accident nearly killed him 15 years ago, but he decided to sit down with Rolling Stone to discuss his life and career.

The funny thing is, I've tried hard over the years to read Stephen King's fiction and I just can't get into it; but I love reading his non-fiction and reading his interviews. He comes across as a sincere, thoughtful, intelligent guy. I just wish I could find a way to enjoy his work more than I do.

I like some of it a lot, especially the early books. Lately I've enjoyed JOYLAND. And like you, I'm fond of his nonfiction.

King always seemed to me to be a greatly uneven writer. Sometimes he's great; sometimes he's not.

It's interesting that the books Kings says he likes the least are the ones his fans like the least.

Writers aren't always the best judges of their own work.

They are not. So I wonder if King is just going by what his fans say or if it's his own opinion. But then if writers aren't the best judges of their own work, maybe they should go by their fans opinions.
