A difficult selection to argue with...though for several reasons I'd append TOM SAWYER ABROAD, as light as it is, to SAWYER and FINN...as an example of how Twain's own focus broadened, as an example of the commercial pressures he felt, and as simply a good piece of entertainment (something which the novelette "TS, Detective" isn't, as I recall it).

I remember being terribly disappointed in TS, DETECTIVE when I was a kid. Haven't looked at it since.
