Although I don't live there, having visited Houston, I find it hard to believe anywhere in the city has a SHORT commute time! That's some L.A.-level traffic there!
It's terrible, all right. However, you can also live close to your workplace if you're lucky. Our daughter was, for a while, within walking distance of hers.
I was also thinking that people in tech fields might work from home most days and probably have no commute (which balances out the days they have to drive 60 miles to the office).

It amazes me that people are able to make long commutes in Houston five days a week. Just an hour or so in that traffic makes me crazy.
