I was between 6th and 7th grade. It was the summer the Braves won the National League West. I kept a combined Apollo 11/Braves scrapbook. How I'd love to still have that scrapbook today!
I had just finished renewed combat training and had arrived in Vietnam. I think I was still in Saigon, prior to shipping deeper in country. Everyone was watching it on TV. Like JFK, this is another time I will always remember where I was when it happened.
Nolan Ryan - the one that got away. For 50 years the Mets never had a no hitter. All their pitchers who threw them were on other teams - Ryan (7!), Tom Seaver, David Cone, Dwight Gooden (the latter two with the Yankees).

Jackie and I were visiting her parents in the Catskills - we were engaged - and came home in time to watch the Moon landing.
God, we're old.

I was in grad school. Judy and I had a two-bedroom apartment. Angela was almost 7 months old. Long time gone.

A collector's item for sure.

Of course, we know that season did not have a happy ending for the Braves, Deb.

No--it was the Mets' year.
Me, too, Tom.
Jeff & Deb, that World Series has an Alvin, Texas, connection.

Shrewd traders, those Mets.
Jeff
You can add the Astros to the shrewd traders list, which is why Ryan finished his career with the Rangers.
"Why did Rice play Texas?"
Nice phrase in a great speech.
