I have about three quarters of those in my iTunes...

I guess they really are loved, then.

I've never heard of most of them. This looks like another list by a clueless punk who thinks the eighties are oldies country.

OMG - WTF? Most of the list I've never heard of the "group" or the single and most of the ones I've heard of ("I'm Too Sexy" for one) are just awful.

Elegants, Little Star (#1)
Jimmy Ruffin, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted
Mel Carter, Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me (last two were Jackie's suggestions)
just in the 1950s we have:
When You Dance, The Turbans
Love is Strange, Mickey & Sylvia
Happy, Happy Birthday Baby,
Tune Weavers
Get a Job, Silhouettes (#1)
Little Bitty Pretty One, Thurston Harris
Mr. Lee, Bobbettes
Book of Love, The Monotones
Purple People Eater, Sheb Wooley (#1; classic example of a one hit wonder)
One Summer Night, The Danleers
Susie Darlin', Robin Luke
Sea Cruise, Frankie Ford
Hushabye, The Mystics
Sea of Love, Phil Phillips & the Twilights

And that's just the '50's.

I'm rather surprised by how many I don't think I've heard, while having heard of some of those or their bands...and it's hard for me, as (for example) a confirmed Chumbawamba fan, to think of them as a one-hit singles band, as opposed to a brilliant album band. I suspect this list skews pretty British, in the downloads as well as the artists...they have a much more frequent tradition over there of getting excited over Just One Song.
