America's dollar store revolution

I was thinking about this just yesterday when I saw that a new Dollar General had opened along one of our town's main roads--it was the third one within a five-mile radius of my house (and that's just Dollar General; we also have two Family Dollars and a Dollar Tree within the same area). Great for small gifts, snacks for large groups, things you run out of mid-week, etc. And I buy the Dollar Tree gnocchi all the time--the same size package costs $2.98 at Walmart.

We have several here in our little town. I'll have to check out the gnocchi.

In my youth they were called Dime stores or 5 and 10s.

Dollar Tree stores get our business! A remarkable range of stuff for a dollar and usually quite good quality for the money. Merchandise changes quickly, so if you see something you like and want more than one, buy them immediately. They won't be there the next time you are 8-)

Sometimes they even have books.
