When I was 17, my 14-year-old cousin and I read The Day Lincoln Was Shot, by Jim Bishop. Not just read it, memorized it. We'd stand around quoting facts back and forth until our friends threw brickbats at us. I can still pull facts from it to this day.

Did you read any of the other Bishop's "The Day . . . ." books? He was one of the first editors of Gold Medal Books, by the way.
