MSN TV News: William Watts Biggers, the co-creator of the cartoon "Underdog," the mild-mannered canine shoeshine boy who turned into a caped superhero to rescue his girlfriend, Sweet Polly Purebred, has died. He was 85.
Hat tip to Michael Bracken.

Well, Bill Crider, you've worked your magic information machine for me yet again! In 1968 I read a strange, wonderful paperback novel, "The Man Inside" by a W. Watts Biggers. For years I tried, without success, to find out more about the author and any other books he had written. I heard of "Underdog", but didn't make the connection. Still have the paperback that I never could find another copy of.
Sorry that I had to find out about him through his obit, but many thanks for the info.
Now I'm curious about the novel. I see that copies are available on Amazon.
As I think about it, the author was probably influenced by Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land, but I like the Biggers better.
I found plenty of copies on Abebooks, so I ordered one.
