Hollywood Reporter: 'Lone Ranger' Budget Back Up to $250 Million Insiders say the Johnny Depp Western, which was cut to $215 million, is well over its revised budget -- in addition to possibly being weeks behind its filming schedule.
F --The Lone Ranger probably has little brand recognition among people under 50, and arguably under 60 (the last LR movie was 30+ years ago, it didn't do great shakes at the time, and a later TV series came and went swiftly).
L -- The jokey western thing didn't work so well with WILD WILD WEST and JONAH HEX.
O --The Johnny Depp tide ebbed after the second PIRATES movie, once the Keith Richards-persona gimmick ran its course; judging from the DARK SHADOWS box office,Depp's name isn't enough to guarantee success.
P -- $250M gets into JOHN CARTER territory where you need a big payback fast to offset big expense and critical apathy.
