Nope. Rather as with Modern English's "I'll Melt With You" and the somewhat better film (if slightly worse song) VALLEY GIRL. (A lot of the better Nicholas Cage movies are getting a lot of clearance on cable of late, as if to remind us of what he coulda bin before he started moving in the ZANDALEE direction.)(Me, I'm still a Deborah Foreman fan.)
Of course, as the biggest Simple Minds hit by some distance, I also tend to think, Chrissie Hynde's fellow-musician boyfriend...the one who wasn't in her band nor Ray Davies...
Hughes' films had average to good soundtracks, a few really classic hit songs strewn about (and films with very funny dialogue). But it's true, the early Simple Minds was even stronger than this hit -- which was made famous to any teen who had seen Ferris Beuller ... Weird Science before that ... The Breakfast Club before ... and Sixteen Candles. The man wrote over 15 or 20 successful movies!

Can anyone hear this song and not think of "The Breakfast Club"?

Call me a snob, but early Minds were so much better. Check out e.g. "I Travel" (1980) or "Love Song" (1981).
