Aside from the fact that there WAS no piano solo on the video of I HEARD IT IN A LOVE SONG, many of those songs weren't rock at all. MOONDANCE? Give me a break. If you're going to include that, you might as well include TAKE FIVE.
But for real rock piano, you have to mention Huey Smith in ROCKIN' PNEUMONIA AND THE BOOGIE WOOGIE FLU, as well as Michael Omartian's blistering solos in Johnny Rivers' version of the same song.
And speaking of Michael Omartian, not many people have heard Johnny Rivers' cut of TURN ON YOUR LOVELIGHT, the old Bobby Blue Bland classic, but it's truly one of the greatest records ever, with Omartian turning in a great piano intro.
I'd been waiting for the Jerry Lee Lewis fans to check in. Glad to see the Huey Piano Smith mention, too. I'll have to check out the Rivers version of the Smith number.

I am shocked. I have always loved the piano on Tuesday's Gone and I thought only me and my old college roommate had noticed all those years ago.
Don't remember who's playing, but I propose Danny Elfman's "credits" sequence for "Midnight Run". (But you knew I'd say that 8-))
