I recently had to complete a 12-page assessment by hand because (a) the form was not on-line, and (b) no one--and I mean, no one--had a typewriter. How I regret donating my old electric Olympia to the Goodwill several years ago.
Only around 15 pct of human beings earn between 10 and 20 dollars a day (not an hour) or more, and most barely have access to most basic needs. In which case, not only typewriters but newspapers and many other basic technologies will still be around.

Actually, that piece is bunk. Brother and Royal, among others, still make typewriters.
