Long ago they broke up Rockefeller's Standard Oil for doing what Amazon is doing. Bezos went nuclear and wiped all Macmillan books off Amazon, simply because of a pricing dispute over selling books through Kindle. (Macmillan books include Farrar,Strauss, St. Martins, Tom Doherty, and others.)
It is a publisher's right and duty to protect its intellectual property and product, and to maximize its profits by so doing. I hope Macmillan sticks to its guns, even if it takes an initial hit from Amazon.
