He does somewhat resemble Moe Howard in the face. Rather tall for the part, without being particularly tall, though.
I thought it was going to be Mel Gibson?

This is a bad idea for several reasons. First: the original Stooges were all short men; Moe and Larry were 5'4" while Curly and Shemp were 5'5". This was a principal part of their comic appeal; their regular supporting players (including the women) were almost all at least half a head taller than they were. This reinforced their position as underdogs. Also, while the boys weren't really ugly, none of them were candidates for Sexiest Man Alive. The use of name actors is another wrong step: Mr. Moviestar would bring his own set image to a character whose image is already set in the minds of millions. This figures to be equally displeasing to Stooge devotees and to fans of Mr. Moviestar. It all comes down to this: The Three Stooges were the personal comic creation of Moses, Jerome, and Samuel Horwitz, and Louis Feinberg. The Farrellys can try to make a copy of them - but a copy is all that it can be.
Great comment, Mike.
