I had an old spinster third grade teacher who had a hand crank generator she sometimes used in place of the her giant paddle with the holes drilled in it if one misbehaved. She'd have you take a wire in each hand and start cranking away. Sometimes she'd have several of join hands and the kids on the end each take a wire and crank away. I've often wondered if my joint and muscle pain I've endured most of my life as well as tremors and neurological abnormalities have any correlation to these events.
Now that's a tough teacher!
Doc's story stirred old memories. I mean, really old memories. My fellow students in elementary school used to claim that the principal had an "electric paddle." Sterling kid that I was, I was never in a disciplinary, um, position to affirm or refute the rumor.
Fred,
It was bad enough having to lean into a the metal and wood desks and have you hide tanned with those big ole Fraternity paddles with the holes drilled to eliminate air drag resistance. Ray Chenowith, our sixth grade teacher also liked to wing chalkboard erasers at students who were talking or not paying attention. Didn't sting much but that cloud of choking chalk dust.
