Arthur C Clarke, One More Time
While thumbing through some of my paperbacks, I ran across an afterword in a reprint edition of Childhood's End that closes with this comment by Clarke, from 1966: "I intend to go to the Moon when the tourist service starts; and I hope (but hardly expect) to go to Mars. . . ." Those were more hopeful times.

Well, more I'd say that Clarke was a hopeful guy. One of my work colleagues startled me a while back by blithely assuming that the Shuttle explosions were simply the cost of space exploration...malfeasance on the part of what has become Lockheed Martin, etc., were revelations to her, and she wasn't sure what to make of my obvious cynicism.
Meanwhile, fandom-supporte rumors about Clarke's own bad acts rumble as an undertone in the memorials...what I haven't read is anyone coming forward with first-hand accounts, as opposed to memories of others' supposed experience.
Yes, I've heard some of the rumors. But, like you, never a first-person account.
what bad acts. OMYGOD HE WASNT A PRIEST!!!!!
I thought those "bad acts" had been dismissed long ago. After all, the man was in a wheel chair. He would need help and stuff like that is hard to hide when you start bringing in a number of people.
The recent claims are about activities in the 1960s. And, of course, some activities don't require stamina. And, sadly, JJ, it was for acts not unknown among priests that he is now being re-accused of.
