Any idea why Signet would have put out an abridged version of this? It's not that long, around 300 pages in my hardcover copy. It may be a bit raunchy for the early 50s, but certainly no raunchier than the Spillane titles Signet was publishing around the same time.
I have no idea. I've never read this edition. My reading copy is a later paperback from, I believe, Popular Library.
I believe Signet also did an abridged version of KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE
