Bass Reeves
Lessons in Manliness from Bass Reeves: "Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves was arguably the greatest lawman and gunfighter of the West, a man who served as a marshal for 32 years in the most dangerous district in the country, captured 3,000 felons, (once bringing in 17 men at one time), and shot 14 men in the line of duty, all without ever being shot himself."

Thanks for this link, Bill. I left a comment over there. Bass has long been a hero of mine.
I remember my uncle, 1/4 Cherokee, talking about Mr. Reeves. My Uncle's grandfather had known him. Bass Reeves was well-respected and well-liked by indians, whites and blacks throughout the Oklahoma Territory.
Larry Fishburne would be great casting for a movie of this truly great man.
Is that pronounced like the guitar or the fish?
According to my uncle, like the fish.
