Because, why not?

Riders of the Purple Sage: Zane Grey’s timeless novel will be staged as an opera.

Seems fitting to build an opera around Riders of the Purple Sage. (I must have started that book 4 or 5 times, but never finished it.) (And every time I think about it, I'm reminded of Philip Jose Farmer's novella "Riders of the Purple Wage," which was in Harlan Ellison's project Dangerous Visions. I think it was the leadoff piece. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riders_of_the_Purple_Wage)
