They lost me at 98 - Heaven's Gate.

Seriously, fellas? Really?

I've seen about 85, as near as I can tell, and they are way too enamored of Kubrick, Spike Lee, David Lynch, Terrence Malick.

Forrest Gump? Eyes Wide Shut? Imitation of Life?

Not for me.

I see that quite a few of the directors would have been quite comfortable with the Celsius scale. There are a handful of limeys, a whole lot of krauts and a couple of bohunks (Forman and Polanski).

THE BIRTH OF NATION? Um, calling it "problematic" is an understatement.

Yeah--I don't get. "Forrest Gump" being on any greatest movie list. However, number one is still "Citizen Kane" so not much has changed at the top.

First of all, I don't think anything produced since 1995 should be eligible--it's too soon to tell. Second, "Eyes Wide Shut" is one of the worst movies I've ever seen (the first 30 minutes of). Third, much as I love "Citizen Kane," I think there are many better films; I'd put it at maybe 12th. Fourth, "Koyaanisqatsi" is a great sedative; I don't know how good a movie it is, because it put me to sleep. And, finally, "Apocalypse Now" should be much higher than 90th, although I don't think I ever want to see it again.

A lot of flicks you normally don't usually see on institutionally-approved tali4es, but basically, when you come right down to it, cut out the fat and put cards on the table, and list that doesn't include THE FATAL GLASS OF BEER (1933)is essentially meaningless.

Amen, Deb. Personally, I also love IT'S A GIFT, a movie I rewatch regularly.

I did like Koyaanisqatsi, though I definitely recommend it on mind-altering substances.
