King doesn't like adverbs, yet Hammett, while not overusing them, seems to like them just fine. All this means you can't take rules like this as absolutes--what works for one writer (like finishing the first draft in 3 months) is certainly not going to work for others.

Hammett was around before the law against adverbs was passed. And King, by the way, doesn't practice what he preaches.
I always thought that adverb ban was kind of dumb.
