Rod Taylor, R. I. P.
The Birds Actor Rod Taylor Has Died at 84: The Australia-born movie star appeared in more than 50 Hollywood films throughout his career, from The Time Machine and The Train Robbers to The Catered Affair. More recently, he voiced Pongo in Disney's family-favorite 101 Dalmatians and played Winston Churchill in Inglourious Basterds.

Sorry to lose him. His movies were a large part of my lost youth. In addition to The Birds, I enjoyed him in The Glass Bottom Boat, The Liquidator, and, of course, The Time Machine. I highly recommend a late (1997) movie of his, Welcome to Woop Woop. Unlike anything else I have ever seen. He is a treat. Very underrated actor.

DARK OF THE SUN wasn't a great movie, but I was highly entertained by it and his performance in it.
He did a nifty little cavalry vs Indians film called Chuka, too. Another one bites the dust. Damn.
The last Rod Taylor film I saw was THE V.I.P.s where he had to share the spotlight with some big names.
Cap'n Bob, CHUKA was based on a Richard Jessup Gold Medal western.
Prashant, I have the novelization of THE V.I.P.S. It's by Marvin H. Albert, one of my favorite paperbackers.
Sorry to hear this--I'd just recently seen him being interviewed, about Hitchcock, I think. I'm glad he was going strong till the end.
And he was Travis McGee to Theo Bikel's Meyer.
Damn, so many fine memories, from TIME MACHINE when I was a kid,through THE BIRDS, HOTEL, THE LIQUIDATOR and DARKER THAN AMBER...
