Minor quibble: It's THE EMIGRANTS, not THE IMMIGRANTS, and it's certainly not a Hollywood movie (traditional or otherwise). Otherwise I agree, moviewise it was one amazing decade.

Trivia: THE NEW LAND - the sequel (actually the two should be considered one single two-part movie) to THE EMIGRANTS - was nominated for best foreign language film that very same year. It lost to some Spanish guy called Bunuel.
