Ocala, Florida: According to Ocala Police, two would-be carjackers were foiled in their bid to steal a Toyota because they didn’t how to drive a car with a manual transmission.

I read a similar story a few weeks back. A guy was carjacked, gave up his keys, and ran away. Once he reached a safe place, he called the police. When the police arrived, the carjackers were still in the car trying to figure out how to make it go. They ruined the clutch--and got arrested to boot!
I learned how to drive in Europe but I haven't used that skills in decades. Jackie has a good friend who won't drive an automatic and always gets a manual transmission when she buys a new car.
Angela had two cars before she consented to get one with automatic transmission. I learned on a stick, being a geezer. In fact, the old pickup I learned in had a floor shift.
My husband taught me to drive a stick shift while we were dating. I knew he was a keeper when I kept killing his car engine and he patiently continued the lessons. Since then, at least one of our vehicles has been a stick shift. I leave teaching our kids to drive a stick to him!

Hard to believe that driving a stick is an obsolete skill.
Yes, hard to believe. I know most people drive an automatic, but I think everyone should have a clue about a stick.

Both my mother and father were so easily frustrated that they pretty much let me teach myself. It was interesting.
