Pretty solid list, as interesting as most good lists of this sort are for who's left out as who's included. I bet Rich is even a little embarrassed when he sees this to see his annual cited with no mention of Strahan's, Dozois or Hartwell's, for example, and the Datlow and Guran annuals are still joined (I hope) by Stephen Jones's. And then there are those other galumphing anthologies of short fiction Of The Age. The erotica choices seem particularly tunnel-visioned (but I understand Viagra can do that to a user).

I thought it was pretty cool to see Rich's anthology on the list.

Worse things can happen! But why not David's or Gardner's, or Jonathan's which explicitly also includes fantasy fiction? Why not one of Michael Chabon's anthologies, or THE NEW MYSTERY? Why not THE OXFORD BOOK OF AMERICAN SHORT STORIES, or Miton Crane's 50 GREAT SHORT STORIES? These questions could go on...

Or perhaps I should write, Why not also? Explanations?

Limited space? A favorite of the picker? I have no explanation, really.

Exactly. I would hope the listmaker would give an explanation...
