Hydrox struck me as having a more cake-like wafer; Oreo as more candy-like. Harlan Ellison wrote one of his "An Edge in My Voice" columns about his preference for Hydrox as well. Jonesing Hydrox junkies should look to Famous Amos sandwiches, which are made by the same folks who last owned the Sunshine Hydrox franchise and are about as close to the last Hydrox as one can get, at least on the East Coast.
Me, I still miss the the old Keebler Grasshopper sandwiches (chocolate with mint fillng)...and the ability to eat them without dangerously spiking my blood sugar.
Famous Foods of Virginia, who made their own version of Samoas till the Girl Scouts got all litigious on them, also had some fine underrated sandwiches.

I always preferred Hydrox cookies when I was a kid and they were introduced years before Oreo cookies. I guess they suffered in the marketing dept.
I knew Hydrox came first, but I was still an Oreo fan.
My mother always bought Hydrox too.

Hydrox was the Ford of cookies, Oreo the Cadillac. But I could eat either one with pleasure.

In an informal taste test held in Manhattan in 1988 by Advertising Age, 29 tasters voted for Hydrox, 16 for Oreo.
Todd, I can tell you're a true fan of a good sandwich cookie.
