I often wonder about this sort of thing when I watch storage auction shows. I know they're not actual "reality," but when I see the auction winner just tossing unopened boxes away and saying something along the lines of, "Nothing here but a bunch of old papers," I can't help but think about unpublished novels, letters, and diaries.
