Disneyland Voce 1955

Disneyland Voce 1955 - YouTube:

As if I didn't know it already, I really did grow up in a different world.  These scenes from Disneyland will give you an idea of what it was like in the old days.  No crowds.  And notice how the people are dressed for their day in an amusement park.  Men in suits.  Women in dresses and hats.  It's world that's a long time gone.

Thats about how it looked when my family first went, about three weeks after it opened, though there may not have been that much foliage in the jungle ride yet. My dad dressed like that, and I do think mom wore a hat. My brother and I would have had on jeans and t-shirts, of course. There were a few more people when we were there, however, and the Disney characters were wandering around. It may look dorky now, but it was really a lot of fun!

When Disneyworld opened in the early 1970s, our family would go every summer. The biggest differences between then and now are crowds (they used to have a crowd limit; gates were closed when that number was reached) and cleanliness (there was a time when a scrap of paper wasn't on the ground a minute before a Disney employee would sweep it up). By the seventies, dress was more informal though--although still none of the acres of exposed flesh I've seen today.
