I've read 20 of the 25. Of the books listed, I'd say there's a tie for BEST ESSAY COLLECTION betweeen Clive James' CULTURAL AMNESIA and Christopher Hitchens' ARGUABLY.
I've read at least a good part of about ten. Gore Vidal not being on this list, and the shallow David Sedaris listed as a genius, all but invalidate it. No GB Shaw...no Montaigne...no Thurber nor White...no so many folks...Vivian Gornick being perhaps my dark horse in this race.
