Well, maybe architecturally, but, to me, a bookstore is beautiful as it reflects the interesting personality of the owner(s), is a comfortable place to browse and the possibility of finding unexpected books is ever-present! Coleen's on Telephone Road was such a place. Murder by the Book in Houston still retains some of those qualities.

We've been to Barter Books in Alnwick several times. There is a model railroad that runs on tracks above the bookcases in the front room.
